Collection

For over twenty years, mounir fatmi has built a collection of contemporary art that includes iconic figures such as Marcel Duchamp, Joseph Beuys and Andres Serrano. This collection, already rich in works by internationally renowned artists, is also notable for its inclusion of primitive and popular art forms, demonstrating an extraordinary variety of artistic expression. Fatmi's approach to the collection reflects a commitment to diversity and innovation, integrating works that range from established historical movements to more archaic and traditional artistic expressions. The Foundation is deeply committed to continuing and expanding this tradition of collecting. The Foundation has planned to acquire works by emerging Moroccan artists, with the aim of further enriching and diversifying its collection.

This effort not only aims to preserve and celebrate the global artistic legacy, but also to give important visibility to young and local talents, offering them a platform to become known nationally and internationally. Recent acquisitions will focus on works that reflect contemporary trends, relevant social and cultural themes, and new artistic techniques developed by emerging artists in Morocco. This approach ensures that the collection not only continues to represent a diverse range of artistic expressions, but also remains relevant and in tune with the evolution of the global art scene. To ensure that the public has access to this rich and diverse collection, the foundation plans to organize exhibitions in museums and foundations throughout Morocco.

”Fatmi’s art frequently concerns itself with networks and cross-cultural interactions, while highlighting the potential for violence embedded within them, as well as their fragility. Sometimes these interactions occur within cultures as well, as when Fatmi talks about his complicated relationship with Morocco, where he was born.”
